Waxing Aftercare Advice | Brazilian, Bikini, Brows & More

Welcome to our comprehensive guide on waxing aftercare! With years of experience in the industry, we understand the importance of proper post-waxing care for maintaining the results and promoting healthy skin. In this article, we'll provide you with essential tips and guidelines to ensure your skin stays smooth, irritation-free, and gorgeous after different types of waxing procedures.

Basic Waxing Aftercare Tips

To kick things off, let's outline some fundamental aftercare tips that apply to all types of waxing. Following these guidelines will help optimize your waxing results and maintain the health of your skin.

Immediate Aftercare (0-24 hours)

Immediately after your waxing session, it's crucial to take certain precautions to promote healing and minimize potential irritation. During this period, focus on soothing the skin, avoiding heat and friction, refraining from hot baths or showers, and steering clear of activities that may cause excessive sweating or irritation, such as sunbathing or intense exercise.

What to Do and Not to Do After Waxing

In the days following your waxing procedure, there are certain do's and don'ts to keep in mind. Opt for loose, breathable clothing to allow the skin to breathe and minimize friction. Avoid excessive sun exposure and tanning beds, as freshly waxed skin is more sensitive to UV rays. Refrain from using harsh skincare products, exfoliants, or other beauty treatments that may irritate the skin. Instead, focus on gentle cleansing and moisturizing to keep the skin hydrated and healthy.

Long-Term Care

To maintain the results of waxing over the long term, it's important to adopt certain habits. Establishing a regular waxing schedule ensures that you stay ahead of hair growth and enjoy consistently smooth skin. Additionally, maintain a consistent skincare routine that includes regular exfoliation to prevent ingrown hairs and moisturization to keep the skin hydrated and supple.

Managing the Most Common Post-Waxing Issues

While waxing is generally a safe and effective hair removal method, there can be some post-waxing issues that require attention. Let's address some of the most common concerns and provide tips on how to manage them effectively.

Skin Irritation & Bumps

To minimize skin irritation and bumps after waxing, ensure you keep the treated area clean and avoid touching it excessively. Applying a soothing aloe vera gel or a post-waxing lotion can help calm the skin and reduce inflammation.

Redness

To alleviate redness, apply a cool compress or ice pack to the affected area. You can also consider using a gentle, non-irritating moisturizer or aloe vera gel to soothe the skin and reduce redness.

Itchiness

Combat post-waxing itchiness by avoiding scratching or rubbing the treated area. Applying a hydrating lotion or a post-waxing product specifically designed to relieve itchiness can provide relief.

Ingrown Hairs

Ingrown hairs are a common problem post waxing. Below I'll give you some tips on how to prevent and manage them.

What Do You Do If You Have Ingrown Hairs?

The best thing to do for ingrown hairs is to exfoliate daily and to use a topical exfoliant such as salicylic acid. Once the hair has been taken from the hair follicle, it leaves the follicle exposed to more bacteria, sweat etc. so we have to take better care of our newly exposed hair follicle. I would start off using topical treatment every other day and cut back even further if the skin becomes dry.

How to Prevent Ingrown Hairs After Waxing?

Preventing ingrown hairs is a lot like managing them. It's important to cleanse your skin prior to getting a wax. It's also extremely important to shower after you have received a wax. As soon as you shower after waxing, apply a topical skincare treatment such as salicylic acid or an AHA to kill any bacteria and cleanse the root of the hair follicle. It is important not to sweat heavily after a wax for 48 hours. Also please refrain from exfoliating the skin for 48 hours post wax.

Brazilian Wax Aftercare

For optimal results after a Brazilian wax, maintain hygiene by wearing clean, breathable underwear and avoiding activities that may cause excessive sweating. Additionally, follow the general aftercare guidelines mentioned above to promote healing and prevent irritation.

Bikini Wax Aftercare

To care for your skin after a bikini wax, avoid tight-fitting clothing and opt for cotton underwear to allow the area to breathe.

Recommended Products for Waxing Post Care

My favorite post waxing product for calming effects and minimizing ingrown hairs is PFB Vanish. The ingredients include:

  • Anti-acne: Salicylic Acid (0.05%)
  • Antioxidant: Tetrahydrodiferuloylmethane.
  • Exfoliant: Salicylic Acid (0.05%), Glycolic Acid (0.10%), Lactic Acid (0.10%)
  • Skin brightening: Dimethylmethoxy Chromanyl Palmitate, Tetrahydrodiferuloylmethane.

Salicylic acid kills bacteria from the root and minimizes skin irritation. The other acids are great exfoliants and soothers for irritated skin.

For the face I recommend Skinscript Green Tea Citrus Cleanser. This green tea cleanser is formulated with a blend of natural ingredients, including green tea extract, citrus extracts, and vitamins C and E, to help restore and rejuvenate the skin. Link To Purchase
